Anniversary edition of Mebel 2018 opened at Expocentre

Today Expocentre has opened its doors for the largest in Russia and Eastern Europe International Exhibition for Furniture, Fittings and Upholstery – Mebel 2018.

This year Mebel celebrates its 30th anniversary. The Mebel product sectors are universal. It is here well-known global brands and furniture manufacturers, designers and interior design specialists from all over the world and from different regions of Russia showcase the best pieces of furniture and advanced materials which determine the furniture fashion.

The participants in the Mebel opening ceremony were Head of Textile Industry Department of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Evgeny Ryzhov, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dmitry Kurochkin, Vice President of the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters of Russia Andrey Frolov, President of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia Aleksandr Shestakov, Director General of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia Timur Irtuganov, and Director General of Centrlesexpo Mikhail Stepanov.

In his welcome address Deputy Director General of Expocentre AO Mikhail Tolkachev thanked the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Russian Export Center AO, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as all professional associations and unions which cooperated with the Mebel team for their assistance and support in organization of this large-scale event.

He also thanked 782 participants from 28 countries which showcased their best furniture, advanced materials, and latest technologies on the exhibition space of 78,000 sq.m. He expressed special thanks to the organizers of German, Romania and South Korea pavilions.

Most of exhibitors, i.e., 552 companies are Russian ones. Regional authorities pay increasing attention to participation in Mebel by promoting companies manufacturing furniture. This year group stands were presented by the Voronezh, Kaluga, Kostroma, Penza, and Ulyanovsk regions.

Evgeny Ryzhov emphasized that, first of all, the Ministry was supportive of Russian manufacturers. Despite the difficult situation with the domestic demand, furniture production is growing thanks to high quality of products made by Russian enterprises.

Aleksandr Shestakov said that "Mebel sums up the results of the year in our industry. We can see how far we have progressed, how well we are, and how competitive in comparison with Western markets".

Dmitry Kurochkin said that all of us were extremely interested in uninterrupted operation of enterprises and manufacture of sought-after products. The Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry tries to solve the industry challenges and help companies promote their products to domestic and foreign markets through its relevant committees.

Andrey Frolov believes that "furniture made of wood-based materials can be considered a visiting card of the whole woodworking sector. Even in difficult times the furniture industry shows some stability. I want to pint out that Mebel, which has opened for the 30th time today, is a powerful tool for support and development of the furniture industry".

The trade show will last until November 23.
