The panel on Training of Qualified Personnel for the Furniture and Woodworking Industries has taken place at the Mebel 2019 international exhibition at Expocentre as part of the exhibition's supporting program.

Representatives of vocational education institutions and companies discussed training of young specialists, industry development trends, and requirements for graduates.

First Vice President of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia Oleg Numerov said in his opening remarks that it was an important issue for the furniture and woodworking industry, as the level of professional training determines further development of enterprises and the quality of their products. In his opinion, leading companies should be engaged in the training process and accept students as interns. A primary objective for today is to train skilled production managers, Numerov said.

Yevgeny Shcherbakov, Deputy Chairman of the Timber Industry Scientific and Methodological Council and Assistant Professor of the Mytishchy branch of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, presented a general view of the training of specialists for the furniture and woodworking industry. Such specialists are being trained in 71 higher educational establishments across the country, and 3,500 freshmen were admitted this year. The trend is generally positive, he said.

The roundtable participants discussed current problems in the training of qualified personnel, exchanged views, and suggested ways of improving the vocational training system.
