Opening of Mebel 2016 at Expocentre

The Mebel 2016 International Exhibition has opened at Expocentre Fairgrounds to showcase new furniture products, the latest production technology, the newest materials, fittings, and unexpected designer solutions from around the globe.

This year the participants in the trade show are 694 companies from 27 countries. New collections and the best furniture items are displayed on the total exhibition space of 85,000 sq m. Germany and Slovenia arrange their national pavilions.

A diverse and large-scale exhibition features eight product sectors which provide deep insight into modern furniture industry and the market trends. The sectors include everything from upholstered, office and kitchen furniture to décor items and components. The overwhelming majority of the participants – over 500 companies – are from Russia.

Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov gave a speech at the Mebel opening ceremony and highlighted enduring importance of the trade show for the Russian furniture industry development. He also emphasized that Russian furniture manufacturers had competitive opportunities to strengthen their position in domestic and international markets. “Our furniture industry has a promising future”, he assured.

Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dmitry Kurochkin stated that “there will be new interesting trends in the Russian furniture manufacture in the near future and we’ll hear about impressive results and, probably, event breakthroughs”.

President of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia Alexander Shestakov developed the theme and said that “for the first time since Soviet times the Russian furniture industry has achieved a 10% growth in exports. Our tile industry showed export increase by 14%”.

President of the Russian Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters Miron Tatsyun and Chairman of the Committee for Consumer Market Development of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alexander Borisov warmly congratulated the Mebel 2016 exhibitors and visitors.

Mebel has always stood out for its comprehensive event program. This edition was not an exception.

The 13th Forum of Directors “Furniture as a Business”, organized by Imperia Congress and Exhibition Company and Expocentre AO, opens its doors to the show exhibitors and trade visitors on November, 22. It features face-to-face negotiations with suppliers from retail chains.

For the first time Mebel 2016 features a consultation session “Russian Export Center: Tools to Support Furniture Exports. November, 24 will see the 1st Professional Competition of Furniture Assemblers. The results of the 12th Russian Competition for the RUSSIAN CABRIOLE National Award for industrial furniture design will be summed up. The winners will be awarded. 

The unique Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitions project aimed to minimize counterfeit products showcased at exhibitions will be carried out at Mebel 2016.

The trade show also includes the Design Hour and Design Tours projects. Acknowledged experts in interior design will hold seminars and workshops and skilled designers will organize tours around stands, highlight the most interesting products and fresh ideas in the field of furniture and accessories.

The Mebel 2016 exhibition is organized by Expocentre AO and supported by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Export Center and the Union of Architects of Russia. The show runs under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Substantial assistance is also rendered by leading industry associations and organizations, e.g., the Russian Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises, the Russian Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters, and Centrlesexpo OAO.
