Russian Cabriole National Award at Mebel 2019

21 / 11 / 2019

The winners of the 14th Russian Cabriole National Award for Furniture Design have been named at the Mebel 2019 exhibition.

The contest was founded in 2005 by the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia and the Union of Russian Designers. The Russian Cabriole contest aims to boost competitiveness of furniture products and promote domestic companies and designers. More than 1,600 Russian furniture companies have taken part in the contest over the years, and over a hundred of factories, designers, and individual craftsmen have been named its winners.

"Russian Cabriole is the oldest and most authoritative furniture award, which was the first in the domestic furniture market to propose assessment of furniture design," Association General Director Timur Irtuganov said in his greetings at the award ceremony. "This year the national award was held in the new format, which results from needs of furniture enterprises and the necessity to move forward, and keep pace or be ahead of foreign rivals," he said.

Nominations and assessment criteria of the contest were changed in the first turn, and its jury was reshuffled to include famed furniture industry designers and specialists such as Olga Kosyreva, Sergey Gravchikov, Maxim Oktyabryov, and Lars Ingolf. The authoritative and strong jury of the year gave a fresh impetus to the award, in the opinion of organisers. The experts assessed contesting products in five nominations.

The winners were named after the vote, which began on the first day of the Mebel 2019 exhibition, on November 18, and ended on November 21.

dmi Rus won the Cabinet furniture nomination of the Russian Cabriole award with the Dyatkovo brand.

Zebrano won the Upholstered furniture nomination of the award.

The Cucina factory was named the best amongst 17 contestants in the most popular Kitchen furniture nomination.

Future Stars was the nomination for novice designers initiated by Expocentre. The award was won by Polina Bodrukhina with her bathroom furniture set.

The jury decided not to name the winner of the national award in the Public space furniture nomination.

The Association head also gave certificates for contribution to the furniture industry development to leading industry designers and experts Alexander Gurevich, Galina Novak, and Svetlana Krzhizhanovskaya.
