At the Mebel 2021 international exhibition at Expocentre Fairgrounds, an award ceremony was held for the winners of the 16th National Industrial Design Award for Furniture Golden Cabriole, the most authoritative award in the Russian furniture industry.

The competition is organised by the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia and the Union of Russian Designers. The co-organiser is EXPOCENTRE AO.

The Golden Cabriole has been held since 2005. Since then, more than 1,600 furniture companies in Russia have participated in the competition, and more than a hundred Russian factories, designers and individual craftsmen have won.

Opening the awards ceremony, Timur Irtuganov, Director General of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, noted that this year there were certain difficulties in the collection of applications and their processing. Nevertheless, enough applications have been received to hold a full-fledged competition.

Russian furniture manufacturers (companies, individual entrepreneurs), practitioners in the field of design, as well as students of specialised educational institutions submitted their works for the award. The criteria for assessing the works included their originality, novelty of construction and design; functional, ergonomic and ecological qualities of the product and its compliance with respect for resources and environmental protection; high consumer quality and competitiveness of the product, as well as the use of innovative materials and technologies.

The winners were chosen by an authoritative jury in the categories: Cabinet Furniture, Upholstered Furniture, Kitchen Furniture, and Future Stars. The award ceremony was also attended by Kirill Cheburashkin, chairman of the jury of the 16th National Industrial Design Award for Furniture Golden Cabriole, head of the Furniture Design Department of the Stroganov Moscow State Art and Industry Academy.

In the Cabinet Furniture category, Angstrem and Vitra were named the two winners with the same number of points. By a wide margin, the award winner in the Kitchen Furniture category was the Diadkovo brand.
