Mebel’2012 International Exhibition. Press Release

The 24th edition of the Mebel International Exhibition for Furniture, Fittings and Upholstery was held at Moscow Expocentre Fairgrounds on 19-23 November 2012.

The biggest furniture-industry trade fair in Russia and the CIS countries ran with support from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Moscow City Government, and with assistance and participation of the Russian Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters, the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia and OAO Centrlesexpo.

The high international reputation of the show and its significance for the Russian furniture industry are confirmed by Approved Event logos from UFI – the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and RUEF – the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs.

Mebel’2012 welcomed leaders of the industry. On the net show floor of 40 024 m2, 882 companies from 37 countries showcased the newest products and innovative technologies. The exhibitors included such world-renowned manufacturers as Hettich (Germany), Hafele (Germany), BMVI (Germany), Grass & Schellenberg GmbH & CO. KG (Germany), Hoffman (Germany), Hornschuch (Germany), Gwinner Wohdesign GmbH (Germany), LLC Raumplus (Germany), Suddecor (Germany), FM Munzer Polstermöbel GmbH (Germany), Blum (Austria), Camelgroup (Italy), Magniflex (Italy), Arredoclassic (Italy), Il Paralume Marina (Italy), Harem S.r.l (Italy), Keoma Salotti S.r.l. (Italy), La Fenice S.r.l. (Italy), Mobilpiu' S.r.l. (Italy), Modenese Gastone Sas (Italy), MBA (Portugal), Luis Silva (Portugal), ADC (Portugal), Asal Furniture (Egypt), Bekaert Textiles N.V. (Belgium), Meble Vox SP. ZO.O. S.K.A. (Poland), Rol Ergo (Sweden) and Kikuchi Gohan Ìokko Ltd (Japan).

The Russian furniture was represented by such companies as Mekran, Stolplit, Dyatkovo, 8 Marta Holding, Parra, Miassmebel, Kostromamebel, Mebel Chernozemya among many others.

Eight countries – Belarus, Germany, Egypt, Italy, China, Portugal, Romania and Serbia – put on display their national pavilions.

The exhibition covered all segments of the furniture market, reflected the latest trends, showcasing a wide choice of home furniture (bedroom, dining-room, living-room, children’s room, kitchen and upholstered furniture), office furniture, specialized furniture; alongside furniture fittings, decorative materials, soft furnishings and various interior objects.

Mebel’2012 saw the launch of a new dedicated project called Trends Hall: Modern Trends in Christmas Interior Decoration, which was attended by UNICO Interiors Decoration, TM Dyatkovo, Galeon Mebel, KLEAM & BROS, SHISHI, and the Prima Vera Italian School of Flower Arrangement and Decoration.

The exhibition featured the Business Contacts Exchange, the Specialists’ Contacts Exchange (Labour Exchange) and the Customs Clearance Consultation Centre.

To plan your route and time during the show, there was an electronic catalogue with information about the structure of the exhibition, the breakdown of feature areas by pavilions, the list of exhibitors and the programme of accompanying events.

Mebel’2012 was not just an exhibition but also a reputable business forum for the furniture industry, addressing challenges facing the Russian furniture sector.

The first day of the exhibition featured a round-table discussion called Russia’s Accession to WTO: Risks and Challenges Facing Furniture Industry, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters of Russia.

The central event on the programme was the 5th Furniture as Business forum for furniture manufacturers and dealers, organized by the Imperia Congress and Exhibition Company and Expocentre ZAO. The delegates to the forum included IKEA, Maria furniture-making plant, Ronikon, Mobel&Zeit, Felix, Lazurit, Formula Divana, Pervaya Mebelnaya Fabrika, PlazaReal, Ormatek, Forema-Kitchens, Tri Kita and 300 more delegates from various companies representing 80 cities from 6 countries. It hosted an inaugural dedicated master class Merchandising at a Furniture Shop.

The 22nd November was Design Day at the show. That was the first time that the ELITE. Interior Territory Magazine, TextileData and Expocentre ZAO had staged a unique event called Furniture Design Trends for professional designers.

Great attention of professionals was drawn to a competition of flower arrangers and designers for the Best Christmas Interior Object Award, run by the Prima Vera Italian School of Flower Arrangement and Decoration, SHISHI, Art-Mebel Company and Expocentre ZAO. The competition showed new opportunities, ideas and techniques for the decoration of furniture salons, shops and exhibition halls for various special events and occasions.

The Prima Vera School and Expocentre ZAO ran master classes in flower arrangement for Christmas interior.

The furniture industry art and technology council, the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, the Union of Designers of Russia and Expocentre ZAO held the 24th Russian Furniture competition and exhibition of the best domestic furniture items and their components, and a qualification round for the 8th Russian competition for the National Russian Cabriole Award in industrial furniture design.

The winners of the 7th Russian competition for the National Russian Cabriole Award were announced and awarded at Mebel’2012. They received medals and the Russian Cabriole Award.

The 8th international competition for the Best Consumer Properties Award and the Successful Promotion of High-Quality Products Award - organized by ANO Soyuzexpertiza of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with Expocentre ZAO - also announced and awarded its winners.

The total visitor attendance of the exhibition made up 41 692 people. 37 523 were industry specialists (90% of the total attendance). The total number of visits was 79 684.
