Post Show Report International Exhibition Mebel 2014

From November 24 to 28, 2014 Expocentre Fairgrounds (Moscow) hosted the 26th edition of the Mebel 2014 International Exhibition for Furniture, Fittings and Upholstery. It is one of the largest shows in the furniture industry in Russia and Eastern Europe. 

The project was carried out by Expocentre ZAO. The Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as leading industry associations such as the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters of Russia, the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia, and Centrlesexpo OAO provided substantial assistance in organization and holding of the show. The exhibition ran under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The show was highly appreciated by professionals and government officials.

Participants and organizers of the Mebel 2014 exhibition were welcomed by First Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Alexander Torshin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation GeorgiyKalamanov, Vice President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alexander Rybakov, President of the Russian Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters MironTatsun, General Director of CentrlesexpoTimurIrtuganov.

TRADE SHOW

Russian and foreign furniture companies presentedtheir achievements and new products of global brands. Their participation confirmed high international standing of the key event in the Russian furniture industry.

This year the total exhibition area amounted to 84 367 sq m. The participants in the show were 742 companiesfrom 31 countries of Europe, Asiaand America. Germany,ChinaandRomania arranged national pavilions. Visitor attendance accounted for 36 895 people.

Russian furniture and woodworking industry was presented by the largest number of participants that is 569 exhibitors.

Among Russian exhibitors there were Absolut, Avanti TD, Almaz, Ametist, Arben, Askona, Atlas Lux, Vash Den, Vitra, Dana, Driada, Komandor, Kostromamebel, Leathertouch, Lerom, Mebel-M, Miassmebel, MDM Complect,Anderssen Furniture Factory, Olivia, Souz-M, Sputnik Stil, Stolplit, 1000 Tsvetov, Ufamebel, EMK Managing Company, and many others.

For participants and visitors’ convenience there were arranged eight thematic sections:Style.ru –Furniture made in Russia; Comfort – Home upholstered furniture; upholstery materials; Style – National pavilions;classicand contemporary furniture from across the world; Components – Components and fittings for furniture production; Kitchen –Kitchen furniture, household appliances and accessories; Office – Office and commercial furniture; Dream – Mattresses and fillers; Decor – Furnitureand interior décor items. The trade show gave a profound insight on the present-day furniture fashion, market trends, latest materials, and production technologies.

EVENTS PROGRAMME

At the Mebel 2014 trade show there was held a round table on Furniture Production in Russia: Challenges, Solutions and Development Priorities. It was organized by the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, and Expocentre ZAO.

A milestone event for furniture makers of the three member countries of the Customs Union was signing of the memorandum. Its aim was tofound the Confederacy of the furniture and woodworking enterprises in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union: the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.

Executive Board of the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Enterprises of Russia (AMEDORO) held a meeting at the trade show.

Imperia Congress and Exhibition Company and Expocentre ZAO organized one of the largest industry events – the 9th Forum of Directors ‘Furniture as a Business’. Participants in the Forum were over 200 heads of companies: suppliers and furniture manufacturers. The Forum programme was rich and included discussions, master classes and case studies on special topics.

The Hour of Design project was first implemented at the show. The seminars were devoted to Trends Review in Furniture Design: Kitchen, Bedroom, Drawing Room, and Office; Trends Review in Interior Design of Hotels, Restaurants, and Cafes; Interior Design Trends 2015: Colour, Materials, and Decoration; Light Art: Fashion Trends in Interior Design. Competent experts in design and architecture presented the newest furniture trends, told about collections shown at the latest international interior shows, interesting solutions, and new products.

Special seminar, organized by VSN-TRANSIT OOO and Expocentre ZAO, was devoted to the customs clearance rules and technical regulations within the Customs Union and WTO.

Organizers of the Customs Clearance Consulting Centreprovided assistance to the show participants.

The Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitionsproject, intended to minimize counterfeit products showcased at exhibitions, resumed its work.

Business Contacts Exchange and Specialists’ Contacts Exchange (Labour Exchange)enabled HR experts in the furniture industry to solve employment issues.

Architects and designers’ consultations of the IdeiVashegoDoma (Ideas for your home) magazine,as well as master classes on Russian Design were held at the Mebel exhibition.

The Mebel 2014 programme featured an award ceremony for the winners in the 9th Russian Competition for the Russian Cabriole National Award for Industrial Furniture Design.

The Industry Art and Technical Council on Furniture summed up the results of the Russian Show and Competition for the Best Furniture Item and Fittings Award ‘Russian Furniture’ and held an elimination round of the 10th Russian Competition for the Russian Cabriole National Award for Industrial Furniture Design at the Mebel 2014 exhibition.

ANO Soyuzexpertiza of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Expocentre ZAOorganized the International Competition for Quality Goods in the nominations For the Best Consumer Properties and For Successful Promotion of Quality Goods in the frames of the exhibition.
